I’ve been neglecting this blog. We go through this several times a year, I know. The truth is, while I still LOVE football and I LOVE this blog, I think the site could use a little change.

I will try to keep the majority of the content football related, but I’m going to incorporate all my other loves as well. So be prepared to be thrown into a world of fitness, books, philanthropy and more.

Perhaps, we’ll even have a few guest bloggers.

We shall see where 2012 leads us.

5-1. I didn’t think we’d get to this point, but I’m pretty happy that we’re here. Now,
Saturday’s game worries me. I was slightly nervous against ND, but this is nerves on
a different level.

It’s Stanford. A team that I would have NEVER imagined being at the top of the Pac-12.
A team, that stunned us several times with heartbreaking losses.

There’s really not much more to say. Stanford = Heartbreak.

But, I’m throwing in a lot of hope. Hopefully, the Trojans I know and love, show up and
show the world that they are the Champions we all know they can be.

The day started off with a lovely breakfast at Redondo Beach Cafe (follow them on twitter! @rbccafela). We, Coach Dad/Papa Glitz and I, then made our way to USC, where we met my twitfam at Psychogate. From Psychogate, which is seconds away from Tommy Trojan, we made our way to the Coliseum with Birthday Girl T (Twitter: @usctfk) & Heather (Twitter: @maliburumbarbie) for some birthday cake goodness.

The tailgate experience was fascinating. I’m already planning my next trip out.

The game. Oh the game. If they keep playing like this, the season is going to be dreadful. I cannot handle the “close call” games. I know that a win is still a win, but we can’t keep winning like this. I miss the days of blowing teams out.

Tomorrow I go to the Coliseum for my first ever USC home game. It will be my fourth USC game and I have never seen the Trojans lose. This scares me. Utah will test us and I fear a really close and really intense game. I don’t think my heart can handle a close and intense game.

I can only handle WINS. Is that selfish?

My advice to Kiffin: If at first you don’t succeed…KICK THE BALL!!! This bs of trying for two last week, killed me.

But I guess Kiffin isn’t to blame completely. If the players take a few deep breaths and focus, I really do think they will be okay.

For both USC and Utah, this will be the true test. PAC 12 opener. Let’s do it!

PS: Was I watching Mizzou v Mizzou tonight? Not a fan of the ASU all-black unis.

PPS: I brought the wrong camera charger and have no camera for the game. Depressed. : (

There is something magical about sporting events under the lights. Under the lights, the playing field looks like a stage and all of us are just there to watch a drama, or sometimes comedy, unfold right in front of us. A lifetime’s worth of emotions packed into a single performance.

On some nights, Shakespeare himself couldn’t write up a better story.

Now Michigan Stadium gets to host an evening show for the first time in its history. And there isn’t a better opponent to do it against than Notre Dame. Classic rivalry. Classic uniforms. Classic elitism.

But regardless of how you feel about the relevancy of this rivalry, tomorrow night will feature a performance worthy of top billing at the Globe. Which is fitting because Michigan and Notre Dame always seem to have a flair for the dramatic.

The key will be Tommy Rees and how he plays in his first start of 2011. The Michigan secondary probably can’t stop Rees on its own. It needs the front seven to get to Rees and get to him quickly. Otherwise the phrase “Rees to Floyd” is going to haunt Michigan fans for a long time.

Denard Robinson will probably be Denard Robinson at least once, maybe twice in this game but I’d be shocked if he has a field day in the same fashion he did last season. If Robinson wants to blow up the Irish defense, he may have to do it as much with his arm as he does with his legs.

No one will run away in this game and both defense will look silly at times. But this game will tighten up near the end and will probably come down to the final two or three possessions.

A finish that will be worthy of a standing ovation.

Sorry all. I needed a couple of days to process what happened on the field last Saturday.

I ended up not watching the game in real time because of certain “real life things” so I avoided the BlackBerry and Twitter until about 5:00 PM in the evening.

I saw what I wanted to see in Barkley to Woods which was pure awesomeness.

The coaching left me a little uneasy and slightly nervous for this week’s game against Utah.

But in the end, a win is a win.

Unranked: USC, but forever #1 in Glitz’ mind

Les Miles makes it easy for all of us to crack jokes. He can’t seem to tell time, he enjoys feasting on the occasional sod and, well, this…

So sometimes it’s hard to remember that while Miles can be a joke his teams rarely are. In six previous seasons at LSU Miles has lost more than 2 games twice. In what is supposed the country’s best conference. And outside the SEC the Tigers have lost just 2 non-SEC games, one of those losses coming in the 2009 Capitol One bowl to a 10-2 Penn State team.

Last night’s romp over the Oregon just solidifies Miles’ credentials as a college coach and LSU’s credentials as a national title contender in 2011.

MIles has been the butt of many jokes now entering his 7th season at LSU. But it the end, it seems, the joke will be on all of us.

Don’t call them a BCS buster
Sure, the Broncos aren’t in a BCS conference, but after its 35-21 over Georgia it’s safe to say Boise State isn’t a BCS buster. They are a legitimate BCS team. At this point anyone that beats Boise State should be considered a BCS buster.

It’s a shame that a program who plays this well gets penalized for something that’s out of its control, like its conference schedule. And the Broncos caught a bad break when their move to the Mountain West coincided with TCU’s move to the Big East.

With all the enhanced statistics people use to gauge individuals and teams, it’s a surprised no one has come up with a way to judge a team independent of the schools they play. Sometimes a program is just a really good program.

So Boise State will continue to destroy teams, good or bad, and we’ll continue debating the team’s merit compared to other elite programs and finding excuses for why the Broncos should not be in the same category.

Brandon Herron set two records: he made the longest pick-6 in Michigan history thanks to his 94-yard scamper in the second quarter. Then his touchdown in the third quarter made him the first defensive player in school history to score two defensive touchdowns in the same game.

Oh, and Jordan Kovacs almost killed Western Michigan’s quarterback. Several times.

But the most impressive display during the 3:30 games wasn’t the Michigan defense but Mother Nature. The rains delayed Iowa’s home opener and as of this writing they suspended the Michigan game with a 34-10 Michigan win and are still delaying the Notre Dame home opener.

That might work out well for the Fighting Irish, who looked terrible against USF thanks to three first-half turnovers. A 16-0 loss may have to go in the records books, but it can’t be any worse than what might’ve happened if the two teams kept playing.

On the West coast weather wasn’t an issues but USC’s poor play was. When Lane Kiffin decides to stop being petulant and put on the big boy pants and coach, maybe his teams won’t under perform. Regardless, they survived Minnesota and the rest of the country was denied an opportunity to point and laugh more at the Trojans.

Thankfully tonight’s marquee games are in domes, so no more crazy weather to deal with. But you can never be sure what could delay a game in Jerry World.
